Talking It Out: When Do You Receive Your Death Certificate

In this episode of Talking It Out With Groff we discuss the process of generating and obtaining a certified death certificate through the State of Ohio's Electronic Death Registration System (EDRS). The process begins when all of necessary vital statistic information is gathered from the family. Please note, if any key information is missing, such as social security number, mother's maiden name, etc.,the death certificate generation process is delayed. Once death certificates are filed, families can contact the funeral home to obtain additional certified copies of the death certificate, or order them online, by phone or in person from the health department in the county in which the person passed away. Due to the channels that the death certificate must flow through, this process may take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.
